Activity 3

In addition to monitoring, a new phase of the research involves oxygenation systems to supplement O2 in the net pens. InnovaSea is developing their own turnkey system for fish farms, ultimately controlled by aquaMeasure sensors. Testing of this system and its incorporation into a command/control phase of sensor operations is a major advance of our initial work in OFI. This research is key to the continued successful use of sensor networks in precision fish farming, and has the following objectives:

  • Quantify how analytical results change as a result of considering sensors deployed in multiple regions, environmental conditions, and additional culture species

  • As numerous sensors are deployed, quantify how error analytics guide more efficient placement/ numbers of sensors

  • Improve ways that additional novel sensors can be incorporated into existing networks and analytics streams

  • Produce novel ways to operationalize these data with improved analytics.

  • Evaluate the success of oxygen supplementation systems

Beyond the existing sensor network, the logistics of deploying the oxygen supplement system (locations, number) are still developing. However, The outcome of this research will be substantial added value to existing networks by demonstrating the power of analytics to enhance decision support. Moreover, optimization of oxygen supplementation will reduce costs and increase efficacy of this technology.
